Weds 15th – Weds 22nd: Back out on strike at Falmouth and Exeter Universities

We love our students and our work. So we’re very disappointed to have to take more strike action, but the employers’ association UCEA has announced it doesn’t want to talk further about pay, while negotiations are supposed to be ongoing.

They have unilaterally imposed a poor pay settlement without the agreement of the unions. This settlement doesn’t come anywhere near to addressing 12 years of real-terms pay cuts.

So unless there is an offer, we will be striking on

Wed 15th, Thurs 16th and Fri 17th March

Mon 20th, Tues 21st and Weds 22nd March

It was strike action that brought UCEA to the negotiating table in the first place (they initially refused to talk at all) and sadly, it looks like this next 6 days of action will be needed to get them to talk to us again.

Our dispute is about 4 fights – excessive workloads, precarity, inequality in HE as well as pay. Ucea is still talking to unions about the other three and we’re really happy, but pay matters too.

Staff in HE have seen its value decline over 25% over the past few years and inflation is still making life harder for us. We think we don’t deserve to get poorer, and all we are asking is that UCEA takes its responsibilities to us seriously, and gets back to the table with a fair offer.

Please come and join us on the picket line and find out more, or join our digital picket by not sharing work messages on strike days, and posting your support for our campaign.

A schedule of pickets and teach-out activities will appear on the events tab asap
